The sample introduction requirements in HPLC are much less demanding than in GLC. Where in GLC the sample must be quickly and quantitatively transformed from a liquid to a gas, in HPLC no such transformation is required. The sample is liquid and the solvent system is liquid. The sample loop provides a simple and elegant means of repeatedly introducing identical quantities of sample onto the HPLC column.
